Cascade of reservoirs and its role in solids flow regulation and water quality management in the Lower Volga River

Abstract

Th e reservoirs of the Volga as reservoirs of bottom sediments and pollutants are natural regulators of water quality. Based on the sedimentation balances the nanoretaining capability (62–96 %) of the Volga reservoirs has been studied and their role as accumulators of the solids runoff entering from different sources has been determined.
