Abstract

Many people might think of translation as a solitary process. This chapter explores how, on the contrary, the process of translation consists of various steps that make working in a team possible or even necessary. After discussing existing professional guidelines with a focus on collaboration and team translation, the chapter explores processes and models in regard to teamwork in signed language translations. These translation processes can be broken down into the stages of pre-production, translation, and post-production. Through exploring the four-eyes principle we will focus on the steps of preparation, translation, and production, which are part of the translation process itself. Finally, suggestions are brought forward for a preliminary best practice.
