BOOK-CHAPTER

Polymeric Materials for Printed Electronics Application

Abstract

This chapter covers the application of printed electronics based on various polymers that open new doors to the manufacturing of conventional (rigid electronics) as well as non-conventional devices (flexible printed electronics). This chapter is organized to understand the need for printed electronics, followed by various printing techniques that can be used to fabricate electronic devices such as screen printing and inkjet printing. Further, it discusses the basic components and their importance in the polymer ink composition. Basic phenomena of conductivity along various routes for the synthesis of conductive polymers are discussed in detail. Finally, the application of polymers in various electronic devices is discussed. This chapter should enable the reader to understand the basics of polymer-based printed electronics and to identify various application areas.
