A 1-Bit Phase-Reconfigurable Magneto-Electric Dipole Antenna with Wide Beamwidth

Abstract

In this paper, a 1-bit phase-reconfigurable wide-angle magneto-electric (ME) dipole antenna at Ku-band is proposed. By employing the PIN diodes, different feeding paths are selected to achieve the 1-bit reconfigurable phase (0°/180°). By introducing four additional via holes into the wide-angle ME dipole antenna, the half-power beam-width (HPBW) of the E-plane is further expanded. Simulated results show that such antenna has beamwidth of 174° in E-plane and 132° in H-plane at 14.4 GHz. The proposed antenna has the characteristics of reconfigurable phase, low profile, and widebeam, which can be applied in wide-angle scanning phased array.
