Textile-based assemblies possess inherent characteristics which include non-corrosive behaviour, higher specific strength, and ductility. These features are highly desired in civil engineering applications for production of lightweight and durable structural elements. Additionally, thermoplastic composites are gaining popularity in building applications due to their unmatched thermoforming and recycling abilities. This chapter is intended to provide an insight on flexible towpregs and thermoplastic composites focusing on construction applications. The hybrid yarn and thermoplastic composite manufacturing process are discussed. The various applications and durability perspective of thermoplastic fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) bars, FRP laminates, and thermoplastic composite structural insulated panels (CSIPs) in structural components are presented. Further, the effect of incorporating short discrete fibres in concrete are also discussed. Flexible towpreg-based thermoplastic composites have considerable potential to form lightweight, bendable, complex, durable, and sustainable structural elements with improved mechanical properties.
