Product configurator

Abstract

Clyde Richard Simon Limited is an engineering subsidiary of Clyde Blowers Plc. The Vac-U-Max division of the company provides specialist material handling solutions for the pneumatic transport of dry bulk materials. These conveying systems are supplied to the plastic, chemical, food and pharmaceutical industries. A lack of product repeatability and the methods used to design pneumatic conveying systems resulted in excessive lead times in the compilation of customer quotations. A low enquiry to order ratio indicated a lack of system responsiveness. Furthermore the technical and commercial accuracy of the quotations produced was not up to the standard required by Clyde Richard Simon Limited. What the company needed to do was to make the whole system more responsive, enabling a quicker reaction to the demands of the customer. The article looks at how the company achieved this. (4 pages)
