MIMO-OFDM Space-Time Block Coding Systems

Abstract

Multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) communication systems have attracted much attention in recent years as a way to improve the performance of wireless mobile communications [54-56]. The MIMO technique utilizes multiple antennas at the transmitter and the receiver to improve communication link quality and/or communication capacity. MIMO wireless communication systems achieve significant capacity gains over conventional single-antenna systems. A MIMO system can provide a spatial diversity gain and spatial multiplexing gain [56]. Spatial diversity improves the reliability of communication in multipath fading channels, where it has the ability to turn multipath propagation into a benefit for users. Spatial multiplexing increases the capacity by sending multiple streams of data in parallel through multiple spatial channels.
