The production and dissemination of scientific knowledge is supported by the scholarly communication system, which has going through transformations due the introduction of information technology in the context of scientific communities and the reaction to higher prices for subscriptions to publications.With the emergence of alternative to the traditional model of institutional repositories scholarly communication open access gain strength as a tool for managing the intellectual output of a particular institution and a means to gain open access to scientific knowledge.However, there are few reported experiences and systematic management of such digital library.In this work we identified the relevant literature on the subject in thematic databases and interdisciplinary, and from then proposed a model of management of institutional repositories.The model was developed based on a literature review on the evaluation and management of repositories and digital libraries.The research material allowed the identification and categorization of management practices in libraries and digital repositories, which were used as elements in the proposed model.
