This paper seeks to explore some of the formal qualities of the short stories collected in Conceição Evaristo's Olhos d'água, in order to reflect on the dialogue between structure and content in the literary work.To do so, in this paper literature is understood as part of a social system, taking into account its relation with the literary history, as well as the acceptance or refusal of the dominant ideological structures and the relation between writer and reader that is constructed through the text. Thus, this study chiefly seeks to underline the dialogue between ethics and aesthetics in Evaristo's work.Based on the concepts developed by Terry Eagleton, this paper aims to underline the important role that Conceição Evaristo plays in the Brazilian contemporary literature.
