Abstract

We have used harmonic-oscillator, Hulthén, square-well and Woods-Saxon wave functions in an attempt to describe the 9Be(p, pα)5He reaction in the context of the plane-wave impulse approximation (PWIA) with radial cut-off. We have obtained reasonable fits to all the data between 35 and 160 MeV by using the Woods-Saxon wave functions, and increasing the cut-off radius for decreasing energy. A consistent value for the effective number of α-clusters in 9Be was obtained and found to be 0.2.
