This chapter reviews research on talent acquisition and highlights issues meriting future investigation. An important factor that researchers have largely ignored is how to get the attention of the individuals an employer is trying to attract. A limitation of recruiting external job candidates is that, compared to its employees, an employer lacks information on external candidates and they lack information concerning what working for the employer is like. A factor an employer should consider in deciding on the type of individuals to target is whether relocation will be necessary. The realism of the information presented about a position during the talent acquisition process has received considerable attention. Research on message content in relation to attracting minorities and women merits special attention given some employers are particularly interested in hiring them. An employee referral program involves employees of an organization actively seeking out potential candidates to fill job openings.
