Lead-carbon (Pb-C) nanofibrous anodes for lithium-ion batteries were prepared via the electrospinning method. The use of lead-based anodes with high amounts of carbon has been shown to improve the cycling performance of batteries through increased capacity retention and electrical conductivity. This is attributed to the Pb-C accommodation to volume change during lithiation/de-lithiation upon cycling as well as suppressed formation of the unstable solid-electrolyte interphase layer. By preparing the anode via electrospinning, an increase in specific area and active material content can be achieved with significant improvement to the battery performance. In this report, significant enhancement of battery performance in terms of specific capacity and cyclability is made using the prepared Pb-C nanofiber anodes. The Pb-C nanofiber anode exhibits a high specific capacity of 637 mAh g -1 with excellent cycling performance.
