Follow-up of natural product isolation means re-isolation of certain compounds in larger amounts for various reasons, e.g. for further biological testing, conclusive structure determination, structure modification for SAR studies, ecological or chemotaxonomic investigations, etc. Apart from conventional synthetic chemistry approaches, a number of other systems, which have been established in other chapters of this book, can be utilised in order to build on this initial natural products isolation protocols. This chapter summarises various strategies and methods involved in follow-up of natural product isolation, and presents a number of specific examples.
