In the last years the Isle of Santa Catarina has been scenery of a meaningful growth in its occupation, factthat contributes to its environment and landscape degeneration, bringing up questions with regards to thepossibility of inadequacies inserted in the Master Plan which rules mentioned occupation. This paper intendsto verify whether there are incorrections, as well as propose a way out to a better adequacy.Calculations of demographic densities, based on the rates defined in the Master Plan of Florianópolis/SCwere utilized. Excluded APL areas (more restrictive in relation to its occupation) it is obtained a forecast of1.269.782, 678 inhabitants for the Island. Therefore, the demographic density average destined to humanoccupation in the territory is 78 inhabitants/hectare.The first result obtained indicates a large amount of inhabitants, larger than the amount that exists currently. However, the second result suggests a low populational density to the territory in a general way, denotinga conflict with the current status. Due to the populational saturation, the Island already suffers its effects, although it has a smaller number of inhabitants than the one forecasted on the Master Plan. Thus, it is verified that the demographic density average calculated does not reflects the reality. The Island’sterritory, with its irregular relief, fragile ecosystems, and limits imposed by its condition as an island, requiresa closer and detailed study, considering the environmental, cultural and local demands.
