Carica papaya papaya.

Abstract

This chapter focuses on the origin, geographical distribution, morphological, physiological and phenological characteristics, cultivation history, breeding, vegetative propagation methods and molecular genetics and genomics of pawpaws (Carica papaya). The importance of developing various genetic manipulation methods for the improvement of the Papaya ringspot virus resistance, fruit storage life and cold tolerance of pawpaw germplasm is also discussed.
