An adaptive context management framework for supporting context-aware applications with QoC guarantee

Abstract

Context awareness, as one of the key technologies applied in context-aware computing, makes applications aware of the situation of their users and their environments so as to follow changing situations, and offer assistance by adapting their intended functionalities to the current context. According to Dey & Abowd (2000): "Context is any information that can be used to characterize the situation of an entity". This context information includes location, time, user's activities, device's capabilities etc. Additionally, we add the concept of "quality of context" (QoC) (Buchholz et al. 2003) to express the quality characteristics of the context information.
