Nanocrystals of Mn3O4 with different shapes and size under 100 nm were prepared using normal micelles as templates. Modifying the solution conditions allowed the authors to control the particle shape. The key factors to control the nanostructure of particles are the interactions between micelles and Mn+2 ions and the molar ratio of sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS)/Mn. When the molar ratio of SDS/Mn was relatively high, nanoparticles acquire the micelle shape, and when the molar ratio was relatively low, a transition from spherical to cylindrical micelles is predicted by the packing parameter and results in rod-shaped nanocrystals. All the samples obtained show pseudocapacitive behavior.
