The priority front of the literary historiography of the XVIIIth constitutes the national literature, the literature of the Spanish. But, in what terms and with what criteria can we fix the peculiar frame of the national literature? Who are they and how are the members of its Parnassus valued? The present study tries to answer these questions through the analysis of five of the most remarkable literary histories out of the seven hundred (Sarmiento, L. J. Velázquez, the brothers Mohedano, Lampillas and J. Andrés).
