Heavily drawing allows as to perform macroscopic mechanical test for ultra-fine grained materials. A heavily drawn ferrite steel wire was examined by hardness test and neutron diffraction. It is found the hardness increases from the surface to the center of the cross section of the wire, showing macroscopic in homogeneous plastic flow. The (hkl) residual were not changed by polishing of the wire, revealing that intergranular strain caused by microscopic inhomogeneous deformation was similar in the cross section of the wire.
