In this paper, a dual-band, polarization reconfigurable antenna is developed, in terms of ±45° linear polarizations (LP) in both X- and Ku- bands, respectively. The dual-band polarization-reconfigurable performance is realized through exciting two radiating patches located on different layers by a reconfigurable slot aperture on the ground. Four PIN diodes are integrated into the ground slot to realize the polarization-reconfigurable characteristics. Furthermore, the phased array application of this developed antenna element is investigated by composing it into an eight-unit dual-band reconfigurable linear phased array. Simulated results demonstrate that the array has the scanning range of ±40° and ±20° in X- and Ku- bands, respectively. The developed dual-band, polarization-reconfigurable array are suitable for a certain multifunctional wireless communication applications, e.g., the radar detections and the satellite communications.
