A Novel Low-Profile Wideband Circularly Polarized Magneto-Electric Dipole Antenna

Abstract

A novel low-profile wideband circularly polarized magneto-electric dipole antenna is presented. A low profile is achieved by designing meander slots on the vertical shorted patch, reducing the antenna height to 0.11λ. The wideband circularly polarized radiation is realized by using a Wilkinson power divider and a wideband 90° phase shifter to dual-feed the dual-polarized antenna. A prototype was fabricated and measured. The results show that the common frequency bandwidth with S11 ≤ -10dB, AR ≤ 3dB and gain > 5dBi is 68.6% from 2.25 GHz to 4.6 GHz. The antenna maintains the advantage of large bandwidth while reducing the profile height greatly. In addition, the low-profile design of meander slots has the advantage of simple structure and easy for mass production, which are beneficial to a widely used in various wireless communication systems.
