Cloud based Intelligent Transportation System architecture

Abstract

Intelligent Transportation System is influenced by the global trends - introduction of more and more sensors and monitoring systems both in the roadway and in the vehicles, transmission of information via wired and wireless communication, high levels of automatization, and use of Cloud services. The article presents a conceptual Cloud based architecture for Intelligent Transportation System. It consists of two layers – Cloud and Edge and propose a dynamic application planning depending on current state of the system and application requirements. The main distinction between the two layers is that the Cloud includes an external service provider, while the Edge is custom development and completely meet the requirements for cybersecurity and real-time operation in ITS. Applications are classified according to their time frame and hard or soft real-time requirements. Future works envisage the implementation of the policy for dynamic invocation of application.
