A miniaturized single-layer microstrip line-fed wearable textile circular patch antenna with triple-band characteristics suitable for wireless local area network (WLAN) and worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) applications is proposed. By introducing an elliptical-shaped slot, a rectangular slot and a U-shaped slot to the circular patch with an all-ground structure, the antenna with a total size of 60×60×1.17mm 3 can operate in three distinct frequency bands, i.e. 2.41-2.49, 3.19-3.39 and 5.67-5.94 GHz, covering the 2.45/5.8 GHz WLAN band and a part of WiMAX IEEE 802.16 2005 WiMAX (3.3-3.4 GHz) frequency band. The proposed antenna shows good broadside radiation patterns, low SAR value and stable antenna gain in all of the three operating frequency bands. With the above attractive characteristics, the proposed design can be a promising candidate for body-centric communications.
