Restoration of Image using Discrete Wavelet Transform with Filtering Technique

Abstract

An image worth thousands of words and is often beneficial media to interpret knowledge. But the image captured is often corrupted by atmospheric noises, camera sensors, instrumentation noises, etc. This effect will decrease the accuracy of the image and harm the fine details it holds. This paper proposes a hybrid technique that involves a Discrete WaveletTransformatin based algorithm to restore and denoise the degraded images. The workflow, methodologies, performance analysis of this new technique is presented in this paper. The paper further compares the performance of the algorithm with the well known Lucy Richardson filter. These methods output is evaluated on the two benchmark metrics, namely peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) and mean square error (MSE).
