Abstract

This report presents the synthesis of cobalt ferrite with pH 7, 8, 9 by coprecipitation method and its subsequent characterization by using X-ray diffraction (XRD).The synthesized cobalt ferrites were evaluated for their antibacterial and antifungal activity by agar-well diffusion method. The cobalt ferrite of pH 7 exhibits antibacterial effect with MIC-25 µgꞏml -1 against gram positive S. aureus bacterial strain compared to standard ciprofloxacin drug (MIC-6.25 µgꞏml -1 ).The cobalt ferrite of pH 8 exhibits antifungal effect with MIC-25 µgꞏml -1 against Candida albicans and Rhizopus oryzae fungal strain compared to standard fluconazole drug (MIC-12.5 µgꞏml -1 ).
