PVRC/MTI Technology for Characterizing Gaskets Used in Bolted Flanged Connections

Abstract

Gasketed bolted flanged connections are found everywhere in industry. Preventing unacceptable leaks is one of the most important and most difficult jobs these gasketed joints have to accomplish during their service life under various conditions. Recently, this task has become even more difficult to achieve due to the use of asbestos substitutes for fibers and to the required reduction of emissions imposed by an increasing concern about environmental safety. It is more important than ever to avoid large and small leaks.
