A Dual-band Circularly Polarized Dielectric Resonator Millimeter Wave Antenna

Abstract

This article investigates a dual-band circularly polarized dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) for millimeter-wave (MMW) band. The cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna's dual-frequency mode is excited by two microstrip-coupled circular slots. The circularly polarized (CP) radiation in the lower band is realized by the outer branches of rings. By simulating the structure, it is found that the DRA resonates at two different frequencies. The measured impedance bandwidths (|S 11 | <; -10 dB) are 7.19% (96.65-103.84 GHz) and 3.6% (147.83-153.36 GHz). The measured axial ratio (AR) bandwidth (AR <; 3 dB) is 13.49% (98.32-111.81 GHz). The gains of the antenna are 6.8102 dB near the center frequency of 100 GHz, and 7.1058 dB near the center frequency of 150 GHz.
