KARAKTERISTIK SASTRA POPULER DALAM NOVEL METROPOP RESIGN! KARYA ALMIRA BASTARI [Popular Literature Characteristics in Metropop “Resign!” by Almira Bastari]

Abstract

Although popular literary works often considered lower value, they are  par with serious or canonical literary works as they be come part of cultural products. Popular literature can be identified , as  the theme, way of presentation, technique, language, and style because it follows the pattern  favor ing by the reading society. This study aims to reveal the characteristics of popular literature in the metro pop novel entitled “ Resign! ” by Almira Bastari. The study us ed descriptive qualitative method, with a n approach of sociology literature and  cultural studies. Collecting d ata were  through a documentation study. The theoretical foundations used includ ed popular literary theories from Kaplan. The results showed that the novel “ Resign! ” correspond sto popular literary characteristics  contain ed light themes, urban-contemporary speech styles, repetition of the themes from other works, predictable plot, unrealistic characters, and a happy ending. All elements  also support ed the office-romance theme that consists of fast-progressive plots, balanced characterizations between female and male protagonists, office setting, romance, and first-person perspective. Meskipun kerap dianggap memiliki nilai yang lebih rendah, karya sastra populer berada pada posisi sejajar dengan karya sastra serius atau kanonik karena merupakan produk budaya. Sastra populer dapat diidentifikasi dari  tema, cara penyajian, teknik, bahasa, dan gaya, karena  mengikuti pola yang sedang digemari masyarakat pembacanya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan karakteristik sastra populer di dalam novel metro pop “Resign!” karya Almira Bastari. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif  dengan pendekatan sosiologi sastra dan kajian budaya. Pengumpulan data melalui studi dokumentasi. Landasan teoretis yang digunakan termasuk teori sastra populer dari Kaplan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa novel “Resign!” memenuhi karakteristik sastra populer yang meliputi: tema ringan, gaya tuturan urban-kontemporer, pengulangan tema dari karya lain, alur yang mudah ditebak, karakter tokoh yang tidak realistis, dan akhir cerita yang bahagia. Seluruh elemen  ini juga mendukung tema office-romance yang terdiri dari plot cepat-progresif, penokohan berimbang di antara protagonis perempuan dan laki-laki, latar cerita perkantoran, tema percintaan, dan sudut pandang orang pertama.
