Optimal Design of Fractional Order PID Controller using Lightning Search Algorithm

Abstract

This paper investigates the parameter tuning problem of fractional-order proportional-integrator-derivative (FOPID) controller. A new meta-heuristic algorithm, namely Lightning Search Algorithm (LSA), which was inspired by the lightning phenomena in nature, is employed to optimize the design of the FOPID controller. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method. Compared to the integer-order PID controller, the controlled benchmark system with the LSA tuned FOPID controller provides better responses with lower overshoot and faster settling time.
