Abstract

A lookup service has been identified as an essential part of NDN. NDNS as a name resolution service was proposed since NDN in itself does not have the feature. The NDNS architecture follows the concept of DNS. However, we argue that the architecture will suffer from the scalability issue in the end since it requires orders of magnitude higher performance to deal with content names than with domain names. In this paper, we propose a novel scalable name lookup service for NDN, called NDN Content Identity Service or NCIS, in order to solve it. NCIS allows multiple copies of a content with different names across the network utilizing two different types of distributed hash table. We present the benefits of adopting NCIS into NDN.
