Experimental behaviour of sisal and kenaf fibre reinforced concrete

Abstract

The composite materials are being replaced by traditional materials, because of the eco-friendly characters and superior properties for construction. These fibre composites are high tensile strength, lower thermal expansion as compared to the traditional materials and the strength to wait ratio is also more. This paper studies the mechanical properties of concrete adding fibre sisal and Kenaf. M40 grade concrete mixed with different quantity of fibre such as 0.25%, 0.5%, 0.75% and 1%, respectively is undergone compressive, flexural and split tensile strength test. The results obtained will be equated with the conventional concrete and the conclusion will be arrived to assess the merits and demerits of using organic fibres instead of conventional additives in the concrete to alter its traits, thus giving us a better understanding of future needs of the construction industry. The results indicate that the incorporation of sisal fibre and Kenaf fibre can improve the properties and used as alternate material for non-organic composites.
