Numerous efforts have been put forth by the researchers over the past decade due to growing demand for advanced lithium rechargeable batteries for energy storage applications. The motive behind developmental progress in LIBs is producing cost-effective and environmental friendly cathode materials with high energy and power capabilities. An effective approach to increase the energy and power densities is to increase the output voltage with a high capacity and high discharge rate. In this chapter we discuss the various positive electrode materials for the LIBs including conversion cathodes, fluorophosphates, fluorosulphates and outer shell coating on the surface of the cathode materials of LIBs.
