BOOK-CHAPTER

Biochar Production via Pyrolysis

Abstract

The chapter starts with an overview of the different thermochemical conversion techniques for dry biomass, including pyrolysis and gasification. As biochars' physicochemical characteristics can vary significantly depending on the type of production technology being used, the production parameters applied and the available biomass feedstock, the second part of this chapter delves deeper into these relationships. The known relationships between feedstock, conversion conditions and biochar properties form the foundation for the production of tailor-made biochars.
