A Portable Automated Bioanalyzer Based on Enzymatic Biosensors for Food Analysis

Abstract

The food industry needs suitable analytical instrumentation for quality control and contamination monitoring. Such methods must be rapid, reliable, specific, and cost-effective. Biosensors, especially enzyme-based sensors, offer several advantages in monitoring bioprocessing systems. Continuous flow analysis systems with integrated biosensors are important tools in bioprocessing monitoring. This work presents the development of an affordable bioanalyzer for food analysis using enzymatic biosensors as amperometric detectors. The instrument is very versatile due to its capability to be utilised for the analysis of a great variety of analytes, such as ethanol, fructose, glucose, lactate, cholesterol, etc. It is fully controlled by a desktop application which allows you to configure all parameters of the measurement and obtain the calibration curve; then, the sample concentration may be obtained.
