Data acquisition system and its applications for a solid state power amplifier in NSRRC

Abstract

A solid state power amplifier (SSPA) is commonly used in the accelerator field. A SSPA prototype system (500 MHz, 80 kW) was developed in NSRRC, and was integrated and commissioned in 2019. This system consists of 100 900 W amplifier modules; the optimum AC-RF efficiency is 49.5% at average output power 800 W for each module. This SSPA technology will be the base of a RF power source for the third RF plant of Taiwan Photon Source (TPS). To provide a tool for the system debugging, long term data archive and real time data monitoring, a data acquisition system has been produced. The client applications such as a software alarm manager are developed to improve the reliability for routine operation of the SSPA. The hardware architecture and the functionality of the SSPA data acquisition and soft alarm systems are discussed in this report.
