Coping styles and related factors among breast cancer patients receiving chemotherapy

Abstract

Objective To reveal the self- esteem level and its related factors for the breast cancer patients.Methods A total of 300 patients with breast cancer after postoperative chemotherapy were recruited and interviewed by using SES and a self - designed general information with cross - sectional survey.Results The mean score of SES of the breast cancer patients was (32.68 ± 2.55 ),significantly higher than the national norm (28.75 ± 4.86) (P < 0.001 ).Multiple stepwise regression analysis results showed that income,educational level and age accounted for 22.5% of the total variance of the self - esteem ( F =21.448,P =0.000).Conclusions Nurses should help breast cancer patients to improve their self- esteem based on their age,education level and income.
