Abstract

In the present study, tin dioxide (SnO2) nanosheet were successfully synthesized by hydrothermal route at temperature180° C by using surfactant cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB). X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies revealed routile tetragonal structure of SnO2 nanocrystallites with an average crystallite size of 3.87nm. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) imaging analysis depicted the formation of nanosheets of SnO2. Optical properties of these nanostructures were studied by UV-Vis absorption spectrum. Optical band gap was found to be 3.78eV and it showed that band gap of prepared SnO2 larger with respect to its bulk counterpart. Photo luminescent (PL) study of nano-particles was also studied at room temperature and found that the emission spectrum was comprised of band edge and interstitial defects emission.
