Solid state devices

Abstract

The view is often expressed that the standard of research in this country is of the highest quality, but that we are not so good in the application of results. Possibly symptomatic of this is the fact that there is an excellent annual conference on solid state physics, under the auspices of the Institute and Society, which is mainly devoted to research. There is no corresponding event devoted to applications.
