Simulation and Feasible Analysis of System Standalone PV-Wind Hybrid System for Rural Electrification

Abstract

Ever increasing demand of electricity, geographically dispersed locations of villages, population growth, fast depletion of fossil fuels and global environmental issues are some of major challenges to satisfy the electricity need of all the society in a country. Current research contributions and day to day experiences news show used of alternative energy sources either in standalone or grid integrated form are solving the problem. In the country Ethiopia, there are many rural villages geographically located far from the main grid that is a challenge to address the electricity need from the main electricity grid due to economic, operation, safety and maintenance problems. The techno-economic simulation and feasible analysis of system standalone hybrid photovoltaic-wind turbine generation system for a rural village located in Adama and Robe, Oromia Region, Ethiopia, is successfully done in this research. The feasible analysis, cost of energy, optimization cost of the components and the electricity produce by the system is done by HOMER software.
