This paper aims to determine the characteristics of the customary inheritance of the Mandar community in the Polewali Mandar regency of West Sulawesi and the constraints of the distribution of inheritance to the indigenous Mandar community. The type of research conducted using the field research method is field observations and interviews with informants. The results of this study indicate that, 1). The characteristics of customary inheritors show that before heirs die they have divided individually to their heirs and appointed the eldest son as ruler until his brother can be responsible for the inheritance. 2). The distribution of inheritance must be in a clean condition that the assets must be reduced by the debt of the testator left by a gift or a grant to the heirs and also the house intended for the youngest child, if the assets are clean, then distribute it to the heirs until it is completely distributed. distribution dispute, then the settlement is done through inheritance court in general after takingthe family consultation process.
