Abstract

Abstract Bilateral limbal stem cell deficiency (BLSCD) represents a highly demanding challenge for the clinician dealing with ocular surface disease, due to the underlying causes, clinical presentation, as well as lack of a source of autologous limbal stem cells. Cultivated Oral Mucosal Epithelial Transplantation (COMET) has been successfully employed to achieve visual rehabilitation in patients with BLSCD. This talk will focus on indications, technique, clinical results and complications of COMET. Moreover, it will present current disadvantages and limitations of COMET, exploring potential advancements in the future.
