A Study on Interelement Spacing of Chinese-Character-Shaped Patch Antenna Array

Abstract

This paper introduces a Chinese character-shaped patch antenna array: Zhong-Guo patch antenna array. A study on element spacing of Chinese character shaped patch antenna array was conducted. When the optimum element spacing is identified as 90 mm (0.75λ 0 at 2.5 GHz), the antenna array exhibits a 3-dB axial-ratio bandwidth of 7.3% and a 9-dB gain bandwidth of 7.4%, which sufficiently covers the wireless local area network (WLAN) at 2.4-GHz band. More importantly, interesting results were obtained for this array that composed of non-identical elements.
