Wideband Magnetoelectric Dipole Antenna with Stable Wide E-Plane Beamwidth

Abstract

This paper presents a wideband magnetoelectric dipole antenna for wide beamwidth applications. Placed on aluminum plate and fed by a L-shaped feeding line, the proposed antenna can provide a wide bandwidth with satisfactory radiation properties. The two arms of antenna are bent to substantially increase the beamwidth. It is found that the antenna can deliver a measured impedance bandwidth from 2.0 to 2.8GHz for SWR<;2. Measured results show that the half-power beamwidth of the proposed antenna is 174°±4.6° in the E-plane and 96°±4.4° in the H-plane. Gain is 4.6dBi±0.44dBi at the frequency band of 2.0-2.8GHz (33.3%). Due to its simple configuration, wide bandwidth and stable wide beamwidth, it is promising for applications in base stations and wideband wide-angle-scanning phased arrays.
