Heliport detection in high-resolution optical remote sensing images

Abstract

Automated image exploitation algorithms are crucial in order to analyze the content of high-resolution remote sensing images. In this work, a fully automated heliport detection algorithm is presented. The algorithm has been designed to detect H shaped, lightly colored heliports. The existence of a heliport on an image usually implies an important facility such as governmental buildings or military facilities. Therefore, detection of heliports can reveal critical information about the content of an image.
