Abstract

We extend the classical theory of isothermic surfaces in conformal 3-space,\ndue to Bour, Christoffel, Darboux, Bianchi and others, to the more general\ncontext of submanifolds of symmetric $R$-spaces with essentially no loss of\nintegrable structure.\n
