Six Phase Transmission Line Boundary Protection Using Wavelet Transform

Abstract

In this paper, wavelet transform based technique is proposed to detect and classify the close-in and remote-end faults in six phase transmission line. The magnitude of detail coefficients contained in a fault current signal is extracted using daubechies-5 wavelet. Furthermore, the norm of the detail coefficients of current signal in each phase is then calculated which aspires at classifying the faulty phase. Simulation studies were carried out in MATLAB for various types of near-end and far-end faults with variation in fault parameters. The simulation results of wavelet transform based protection technique signify that the proposed method accurately detects and classifies the boundary faults.
