This work constitutes an important work that seeks to examine the current problem experienced by society in relation to the existing gap between scientific knowledge and reality; in this case, in the so-called field of k nowledge of disability, which is possibly the result of a lack of articulated work between academia, society, and decision makers at the political level. In the text, the authors combine elements of theoretical and conceptual nature validated at the international level, which are intertwined with applied experiences as examples of how to move toward an effective incorporation of scientific knowledge in different elements of society: at the level of policy making, with the development of programs and projects that can have an impact on the solution of real problems of the population with disabilities. It is important to highlight the interdisciplinary and international character of the study, which provides a broad view on the state-of-the-art of the subject in question, especially in the Latin American region.
