Wireless sensor networks consist of a large number of nodes with sensing, computation, and wireless communication capabilities. Performance of the sensor network is largely affected by the path which is followed by a sensor node. Location-Aided Routing Protocol (LAR) is one among them which works on the selection of the best path. In LAR Protocol packets are forwarded to the nodes which are closer to the destination than the current node. But, it was observed that sometimes this routing protocol ends up with longer paths and no path found situations. To overcome such drawbacks, we proposed an algorithm called Optimized Flooding Protocol (OFP). A number of experiments were conducted on the proposed algorithm. The results showed that along with overcoming such predicaments, the protocol also produces an improved result in terms of the number of broadcasts, time delay, duplicate broadcasts and the variance of energy levels better than the existing protocols in density based wireless sensor networks. This paper presents an efficient approach of packet transfer from one node to another node depending on their distance from the destination node and their energy levels.
