Improvement of VoIP service quality based on an adaptive congestion control method

Abstract

In this paper, we improve the quality of voice over internet protocols (VoIP) for real-time communication. VoIP is vulnerable to poor performance due to some networks impairments such as packet loss, delay and jitter. We suggest a congestion control method that relies on extracting more information from receiver feedback reports. In this paper, we develop an algorithm that integrates efficient queuing methods into the proposed adaptive congestion control techniques based at the sender-side. We conduct simulation experiments in a network simulator (NS2), to test the performance of our proposed algorithm in improving VoIP service quality. Further results indicate that our proposed algorithm outperforms the existing congestion control methods.
