Micromechanical measurements of Interfacial Adhesion in E-Glass/Epoxy Composites

Abstract

Experimental data are presented for the fiber/matrix interfacial adhesion in unsized and sized E-glass/epoxy microcomposites. A comparison of the results obtained by the microbond and the single-fiber composite tests is presented and discussed. The adequacy of specific micromechanical adhesion tests for a given fiber/matrix system is discussed. It is conjectured that the “true” value of the adhesion strength falls in-between the results from the microbond and the single-fiber composite tests.
